WG Resort VA – A Family Residence Renovation and Addition 2500 SF

This retreat home sits on top of Wintergreen Mountain at 6,000 square feet, constructed primarily of wood. This client returned after previous home renovations completed several years prior, asking for a new kitchen with a possible addition and custom casework. Our final renovation included the dining room, laundry, and pantry, but most central to the plan was our modern, highly functional kitchen for a serious chef and entertaining host. The addition, an interior bridge linking the main house to the garage, functioned as a library for their cookbook collection. We also built out the mudroom/breezeway and a new, easily accessible guest powder room with glazing wall detail, bringing in natural light from the bridge light-well. Where the kitchen was previously dark, limiting, and disconnected, our expansion opened it up to the rest of the house as an airy, open space bathed in natural light, gaining additional views of the mountain. Our priority was to reuse as much of the original, stately wood beams and woodwork, which is highlighted in the under-sink, wall-mounted cabinet in the guest powder room, the floating bench in the bridge, and the built-in casework in the Great Room. As you might notice, light was an important feature, with sensored LED light integrated under the bench and powder room cabinet for atmospheric, low light.
