Charlottesville VA – Concepts for Renovation + Expansion for a small family​ 2532 SF (Existing)

This young couple with a small child frequently hosted visiting in-laws. They wished for ideas on how to renovate their home, as its existing state did not meet their needs. Our masterplan-concept renovation sought to maximize space, bring in more natural light. The changes allowed for greater outdoor access, as well as sound control and acoustics. We also incorporated additional space for the guest bedroom, a primary suite, and increased storage in the laundry, pantry, and mudroom. Our program included a flexible craft and office space for remote work that would function late into the evening without disturbing or being disturbed by a growing toddler. With this project, we took a holistic approach, rethinking the entire layout and function of spaces. Of our three proposed schemes, the clients loved the 2nd scheme and elected to build in the primary suit from the 3rd scheme. While the clients put the project on hold, they are excited at the possibility of moving forward at a later date.
