Jennings Hall
Jennings Hall
JMU, Harrisonburg, VA – University Residence Hall 151,000 SF
This hall serves as the newest residence hall at James Madison University, named in honor of James Madison’s enslaved personal servant, Paul Jennings. The residence hall on the east campus replaces an existing intramural field and establishes exterior connections with the neighboring University Recreation building and the East Campus Dining Hall. The interior public spaces are a natural extension to the landscape design, which includes courtyards and outdoor gathering spaces. The building’s interior creates a vibrant place for year-round activity and social connectivity for the resident community. Throughout the building there is a continued connection to the exterior, transparency to benefit the views, plenty of natural light, and an economy of materials and palette.
